Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated (AKA) is an international service organization that was founded on the campus of Howard University in Washington, D.C. in 1908. It is the oldest Greek-lettered organization established by African-American college-educated women.

The Lambda Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated was chartered in Newport News, Virginia on January 13, 1934. Lambda Omega is the channel through which each member can improve educational, social, cultural, and economic conditions on the Virginia Peninsula.

We continue to perpetuate the ideals and principles of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and contributes thousands of dollars annually to community service projects for educational and cultural development. Through the years, Lambda Omega has maintained an annual membership of more than 100 women.

President's Greeting

It is both a privilege and an honor to greet you as President of the Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. I thank you for your pledge of support; I have every confidence that we as a sisterhood will carry this torch together as we embark on a new year. With the freshness of a new year comes the anticipation of new goals to set, new challenges to accomplish and new programs and services to deliver. I am inspired by the selfless giving of time, talents, resources and extraordinary visions of the women of the Lambda Omega Chapter. The long standing position of prominence that the sorority has held in the Newport News community and throughout the Tidewater area is a great source of pride. Providing services has remained our single minded focus for over seventy seven years and I know our outstanding chapter will continue to positively impact the lives of our citizens.

We will accomplish much if we strive to follow the examples of our extraordinary Diamond members, Katherine Johnson and Margaret Johnson, who were both pioneers in their respective fields and are still fulfilling our founding principles of "service to all mankind". We shall also strive to follow the guidance of our International leadership to work SMART, to insure that each of our program initiatives is Strategic, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant and Transferable for enhanced impact.

Our sisterhood which has stood the test of time will forever be a beacon of heart and hands together. I look forward to joining hands with all of you in continuing to achieve the work of our sorority in service to our community. I also look forward to the warm, friendly, nurturing relationships that make Lambda Omega Chapter outstanding.

My very best regards,
Norma G. Gaither
President
